Coaldale Civic Square
Shift REI and the Town of Coaldale collaborated on the construction and management of a brand new Civic Square – a 19,407 square foot public-private partnership in the heart of Coaldale. It was completed at the end of 2022.

Built to Serve the Community
Situated at the corner of 18th Street and 20th Ave downtown, the project was designed to bring more than just a new town hall. This project has brought new life to main street Coaldale. This new, multi-purpose build is the result of an innovative approach from the Town of Coaldale in finding a new town hall. Instead of simply erecting a new building, the Town invited Shift REI to partner with them to build a multi-purpose space that would better suit the needs of the entire community.
Collaborating to Build a Better Future
As a public-private partnership, this building added both public and commercial space to the burgeoning town, along with exciting new architecture to bring visual interest to the downtown core.
The Town of Coaldale has retained ownership of the:
- Council Chambers on the main floor
- Administrative office space on the second floor
- The public atrium
- Meeting rooms
Shift REI will maintain ownership of the four commercial spaces within the Civic Square building. We look forward to partnering with local businesses to develop these spaces to best suit their needs.
